Game 117: The Legacy: Realm Of Terror (1993) – Introduction

By Voltgloss

In 1992, Infogrames released Alone in the Dark, which put the player in the role of an unsuspecting investigator who experiences the horrors of the mansion of an eccentric magnate, after said eccentric magnate committed suicide. The player tries to escape from the mansion, the unspeakable lurking fears that haunt it in the dark and from the raving madness that the secrets of the mansion could deliver. It is exciting, deadly and … why do I suddenly have this overwhelming sense of déjà vu?

All the pictures into the mind/There's a flashing in my eyes
(Image still from here)

Yes, it's time for a horror double bill here on The Adventure Gamer. The year after Alone in the Dark saw, not only Infogrames's own Shadow of the Comet, but a competitor's entry placed even more solidly in the "haunted house" genre. Because in 1993, Microprose released The Legacy: Realm of Terror, which puts the player in the role of an unsuspecting inheritor who experiences the horrors of the mansion of an eccentric Massachusetts family, as said family's last surviving heir. The player tries to escape from the mansion, the unspeakable lurking fears that haunt it in the dark and from the raving madness that the secrets of the mansion could deliver. It promises to be exciting, deadly, and … why do I suddenly have this overwhelming sense of déjà vu?

We've just been in this place before

So the setup for Legacy is decidedly familiar. What about the gameplay? What we've got on our hands here, based on the manual and a bit of make-sure-everything-works tinkering, is an Adventure/RPG hybrid: a game where the player controls a single character exploring a "dungeon" (the mansion) in first-person perspective, with tile-based mapping and over fifteen different character statistics, all apparently with gameplay significance down the line. Something in the Elvira and Waxworks vein, then - but leaning even more heavily on the RPG side. Will the game stand on its own as an Adventure? Will it navigate the narrow straits of hybridization successfully, or will both halves combine to make less than a whole? We're about to find out.

Higher on the street

The Legacy: Realm of Terror (also called simply The Legacy outside the United States) was the last game developed by British adventure game developer Magnetic Scrolls, after their acquisition by MicroProse. Between 1985 and 1990, Magnetic Scrolls had previously developed six graphical parser-based text adventures (and one "mini-adventure" offered to those who joined the short-lived "Official Secrets" adventure gaming club): The Pawn, The Guild of Thieves, Jinxter, Corruption, Fish!, Myth, and Wonderland. We've not covered any Magnetic Scrolls games previously on this blog - perhaps some Missed Classics treatment is in order down the line? [Admin note: Well, a reviewer did start Wonderland as our sixth Missed Classic, but he vanished after barely scratching the game. A replay is definitely in order.]  For now though, I'm playing through their first and only foray into mouse-driven, RPG-hybrid adventuring, published in 1993 for PC (and released digitally on GOG in December 2019).

See your body into the moonlight

Loading the game treats us to a cinematic intro where someone (our protagonist? someone else?) drives up to the spooky Winthrop House, accompanied by lightning flashes and tense, fast-paced music. Between the glowers of gargoyles our perspective passes through the front door, into a foyer (that we'll see "for real" soon enough), up stairs and through a door - and promptly face-plants into the floor in a dimly lit hallway, blood filling our vision. An omen of things to come? The fate of the last visitor before us? We may never know! What we do know - as the game next tells us after showing a newspaper about the "Winthrop House heir" (us) being located - is that it's time to select (or create) our character.

The fiction is gonna run it again

Character selection/creation lets you pick one of eight different protagonists, each with different backgrounds, character model design, and statistics. You can also manually adjust statistics for any one of the eight characters to tailor their attributes to your liking. The manual also promises that skills can be improved as we progress through the game, although there doesn't appear to be any dedicated "experience" score or character "level"; rather, the game suggests that repeatedly using a particular skill can increase your proficiency at it, Quest for Glory-style. There are seven primary statistics, three of which have four secondary sub-skills, as detailed in the manual:

1. Knowledge - ability to "perform various operations requiring special training." Sub-skills:
  • Electronics - for opening "electronic locks" and dealing with other "electronic objects"
  • First Aid - for restoring health via first aid kits
  • Meditation - for restoring magic power via "Power Crystals"
  • Mechanics - for opening "mechanical locks" and dealing with other mechanical objects
2. Strength - prowess with hand-held weapons, and boosts Health. Sub-skills:
  • Brawling - bare-handed punching prowess
  • Club - prowess with club-type weapons
  • Force - for forcing open doors
  • Lift - for picking up heavy objects
3. Dexterity - a "value for basic agility." Sub-skills:
  • Blade - prowess with bladed weapons
  • Dodge - ability to avoid ranged weapon attacks
  • Firearms - prowess with firearms
  • Throw - ability to throw objects or weapons
4. Stamina - poison resistance and boosts Health

5. Willpower - prowess with magic and resistance to magical attacks

6. Health - our character's life meter; death at zero "hit points." Derived from Strength and Stamina.

7. Magic - or "magic points"; expended by casting spells.

And now, let's meet our eight potential protagonists. Whom shall we pick? That's up to you! I'll be accepting votes in the comments to this post as to your first, second, and third choice of protagonist; I'll then assign 5 points per first-choice pick, 3 points per second-choice pick, and 1 point per third-choice pick, and then using whichever character gets the most points. Ties will be broken by random roll. I'll accept votes up until 72 hours after this is posted. Here we go!

Brad Norris. Sophomore at NYU, ski team captain and Debating Society member.
Planning a "mondo party." Never claimed to have deep motivations.

Brad is the default choice if you're just clicking through as fast as possible, and perhaps by design he's one of the most well-rounded statistically, with equal Knowledge, Strength, and Dexterity scores. Most of his sub-skills have a few bonus points added (the gold line segments extending to the right of the blue, red, or purple line segments below each sub-skill's name).

Charlotte Kane. CEO of the charmingly-named Golgotha Holdings.
Planning to turn Winthrop House into a luxury hotel and conference center.

Charlotte is one of the four options who comes with a spell already learned. No idea why a CEO knows the secrets of the Crimson Mists of Myamoto, but apparently it's a spell to reduce physical damage taken. Statistically, she's got very low strength, mediocre dexterity, but high knowledge (and particularly good at patching herself up with first aid kits). Lower health than Brad, but higher willpower.

Charles Weiss. Stage magician and self-described astrologer and occultist.
Implicated in the Arlington "sacrifice" scandal. We don't talk about the Arlington "sacrifice" scandal.

Charles eschews protective magic for a good old-fashioned fireball spell, leveraging the arcane power of not one, not two, but three words ending in "-eth." Base statistics are generally low across the board (even his Knowledge score is just equal to Brad's, though he's specialized in Meditation where Brad isn't). Where Charles put his bonus points is into his fire magic; see the length of the gold line segment below the "Flames of Desolation" spell name.

Lucy Weston. Sophomore at UCLA. Orphan who worked her way through school.
Tennis and volleyball player. Thinks her inheritance is "totally rad" and "almost tubular."

Possibly modeled on horror films' "final girl" trope, Lucy here is just as strong as Brad, has extremely high dexterity and health, and is apparently a crack shot (with the best skill in firearms out of all eight characters). As a tradeoff, her knowledge is at rock bottom.

Henry Jones. Head of the Department of American History at Penn State.
Authority on the Salem witch-trials. No word on whether he has a son named Junior.

What horror game is complete without a university professor character? Henry here brings impressive knowledge to the table, with mediocre dexterity (though he's spry enough to dodge and throw surprisingly well) and lots of points devoted to his "Sight of the Dark Walker" spell. I don't have any information on what spells do beyond the description you see here; I'm guessing this lets you see in the dark and, maybe, helps with discovering secrets. Of course, all those points need a tradeoff somewhere; Henry has the least strength and health of all eight characters.

Jane Olson. Investigative journalist with the New York Daily Post.
Looking to uncover the truth about the Winthrop family's enigmatic disappearance.

Jane is our second well-rounded choice. She has very similar stats to Brad, with equal knowledge, strength, and dexterity scores and with solid health and willpower. Jane's a bit better than Brad with at punching, dodging, forcing doors, and tinkering with electronics/mechanics; while Brad has the edge in first aid and throwing skill.

Robert "Boomer" Kowalski. USMC (retired). Purple Heart and Navy Cross holder.
Veteran of actions in Grenada, Panama, and the Gulf.

Someone has to have the most strength of the bunch, and that someone is Robert. He's best situated of the eight to beat down eldritch abominations with his bare fists, and is also ready to swing a mean blade or shoot a mean gun. Average dexterity and mediocre knowledge (though with combat training in the use of first aid kits). His weak point is very low willpower. What's that going to mean in gameplay? We'll see, but the manual suggests your protagonist can become terrified or go into shock at the horrors they'll face. If willpower determines resistance to such effects, our friend Robert here is well-equipped … to go mad.

Isobel Gowdie. Widow and distant Winthrop family relative.
There's always been one Gowdie resident in the area, dating back to the 17th century.

Isobel, like Charles, is a fire-slinging offensive spellcaster. Mediocre stats across the board in exchange for very high willpower and a pumped-up Flames of Desolation spell. Compared to Charles, she has less knowledge (though is a bit better at first aid) and less prowess with weapons; but she actually is better at magic (in both raw magic and in her Flames spell) and has more stamina and health.

So, there's our cast! Whom shall be our avatar for this spooky adventure? You all tell me. I look forward to your choice!

Note Regarding Spoilers and Companion Assist Points: There's a set of rules regarding spoilers and companion assist points. Please read it here before making any comments that could be considered a spoiler in any way. The short of it is that no CAPs will be given for hints or spoilers given in advance of me requiring one. As this is an introduction post, it's an opportunity for readers to bet 10 CAPs (only if they already have them) that I won't be able to solve a puzzle without putting in an official Request for Assistance: remember to use ROT13 for betting. If you get it right, you will be rewarded with 50 CAPs in return. It's also your chance to predict what the final rating will be for the game. Voters can predict whatever score they want, regardless of whether someone else has already chosen it. All correct (or nearest) votes will go into a draw.

Today's Interview is with:

Chris Backe
Interviewed on: 1/11/2019

This week we meet Chris Backe, a designer originally from the US, but now travelling and living around the world (Istanbul at the time of this interview). Chris has a number of exciting projects he's working on. Not just game designs, but also a playtesting service and blog. Down below, where I ask Chris if he's a member of any Facebook or design groups, he answers "All of them", which might actually be accurate. If you're online in the game design communities, chances are you've already had interactions with Chris, or at least seen his posts and comments. It's great to have such enthusiastic members of the game design communities. Read on to learn more about Chris and his projects!

Some Basics
Tell me a bit about yourself.

How long have you been designing tabletop games?
Two to five years.

Why did you start designing tabletop games?
At first, it was just to get an idea out of my head. I had half-heartedly written down game ideas for awhile, and while watching some random episode of 'Tabletop', I thought I should take it more seriously. Had this fantasy about getting one of my games played on the show...

What game or games are you currently working on?
This list changes all the time, but the top 5:
* Defuse - real-time, turn-based bomb defusal game. Co-op with defectors.
* Who Shot the Sheriff? - 6-20 player social deduction game like Werewolf / Mafia.
* Royal Wedding - a spiritual sequel to 'Love Letter' - hand-management, card manipulation, a bit of take-that.
* Don Quixote - an experiment to put a bigger-feeling game in a tiny box.
* Unicorn Zoo - auction and bidding game about unicorns - think 'Ticket to Ride' meets 'Modern Art' with unicorns.

Have you designed any games that have been published?
As of when I type this, there have been some exciting developments I can't talk about yet =)

What is your day job?
Web developer, author, and blogger.

Your Gaming Tastes
My readers would like to know more about you as a gamer.

Where do you prefer to play games?
Board game cafes, usually.

Who do you normally game with?
Being a digital nomad and always traveling, I don't have a group I return to week after week. I'm definitely looking for people that like trying new things, and if given the choice, I'll aim for casual players over hard-core gamers.

If you were to invite a few friends together for game night tonight, what games would you play?
While I'm always up to playtest (my games or others), Sushi Go, Ra, and Champions of Midgard are all great.

And what snacks would you eat?
Non-greasy potato chips, maybe some peanuts or trail mix...

Do you like to have music playing while you play games? If so, what kind?
Not really... Atmospheric background music is one thing, but anything that makes you have to talk louder is problematic.

What's your favorite FLGS?
n/a

What is your current favorite game? Least favorite that you still enjoy? Worst game you ever played?
Current favorite: Ra. Love the auction mechanism.
Least favorite that you still enjoy: Cards Against Humanity. Requires alcohol.
Worst game you ever played? Ooh... I've playtested some... interesting prototypes over the years. No names / details obviously, but one doozy was a two-hour marathon that was initially pitched as a 20-30 minute game.

What is your favorite game mechanic? How about your least favorite?
Auctions / negotiating is a current favorite.
Least favorite: anything memory-based or player elimination.

What's your favorite game that you just can't ever seem to get to the table?
Beyond my own? I'm happy to play almost anything, and don't own many games myself...

What styles of games do you play?
I like to play Board Games, Card Games, Video Games

Do you design different styles of games than what you play?
I like to design Board Games, Card Games

OK, here's a pretty polarizing game. Do you like and play Cards Against Humanity?
With alcohol, sure.

You as a Designer
OK, now the bit that sets you apart from the typical gamer. Let's find out about you as a game designer.

When you design games, do you come up with a theme first and build the mechanics around that? Or do you come up with mechanics and then add a theme? Or something else?
The very first spark usually comes from a question: 'What if players have to...?' or a statement like 'Picture a game about...'. So I guess theme comes first. With that said, I keep two Google docs close by. One is 'Mechanics with no theme' and is several pages of mechanics I like, have seen, have conjured up... These aren't part of any game design yet, but inspiration should never be more than a couple of clicks away. The other main document, as you might have guessed, is 'Themes with no mechanics' - same basic thing.

Have you ever entered or won a game design competition?
Entered a few - 'Cryptomillionaire' won Honorable Mention in the BGDL contest in 2018. A couple have gotten past the first round, and as mentioned, there have been some exciting developments I can't talk about as of when I write this. You'll hear about it in one way or another when I can, though =)

Do you have a current favorite game designer or idol?
No one specific person. I'm in awe of Reiner Knizia's output (both quantity and quality), though.

Where or when or how do you get your inspiration or come up with your best ideas?
It's usually a different story every time. Sometimes it comes from trying to fix another game (Who Shot The Sheriff fixes three things I didn't like about Werewolf/Mafia: player elimination, the whole 'closing-your-eyes' thing, and that one person basically needs to sit out and be a moderator). Other times, it just comes from a conversation (Pirate Grannies came after a conversation with my mother-in-law, for example).

How do you go about playtesting your games?
When I arrive in a new country, one of my first priorities is researching the local game groups, game stores, and so on. Most folks are happy to playtest stuff if I pitch it right (usually I say something like 'if we don't go from opening the box to playing in less than 5 minutes, I'll buy you a beer'). Some confidence and assertiveness is part of this — reducing the amount of friction to get a game started / setup.

Do you like to work alone or as part of a team? Co-designers, artists, etc.?
I haven't co-designed a game (yet), but I'm usually keen for brainstorming or tossing around ideas. I'll work with an artist when it's time, but I haven't yet figured out how that relationship is *supposed* to work.

What do you feel is your biggest challenge as a game designer?
The pitching part is one huge challenge. I'd love to show a publisher a small, carefully curated portfolio of ideas and let them choose the one or two they're most interested in to develop further. (Yes, I know the system doesn't work that way — but I wish this whole process was easier and faster.)

If you could design a game within any IP, what would it be?
Probably something simple in the Star Trek universe.

What do you wish someone had told you a long time ago about designing games?
It's OK to shelve a game for a week...a month... a year. It's OK to shelve a game and never look back. You'll have a ton of ideas, and it's OK to pick and choose a priority level for each of them. They're not children that require equal time.

What advice would you like to share about designing games?
Playtest with everyone and anyone you can. Don't limit it to 'just gamers' or 'just developers'. All feedback is appreciated, useful, and potentially even valuable.

Would you like to tell my readers what games you're working on and how far along they are?
Currently looking for a publisher I have: Secret Recipe - family-weight logic / deduction game about finding a secret recipe.
Royal Wedding - a spiritual sequel / successor to Love Letter.
Crazy Travel Stories - a casual / party storytelling game.
How Much Money - a teen or adult party game
Who Shot the Sheriff - 6-20 player social deduction game

Games I feel are in the final development and tweaking stage are: Unicorn Zoo - auction / negotiating game - Ticket to Ride meets Modern Art.
Games that I'm playtesting are: Don Quixote - family-weight exploration game that follows the classic book.
And games that are still in the very early idea phase are: Too many to mention =)

Are you a member of any Facebook or other design groups? (Game Maker's Lab, Card and Board Game Developers Guild, etc.)
All of them =)

And the oddly personal, but harmless stuff…
OK, enough of the game stuff, let's find out what really makes you tick! These are the questions that I'm sure are on everyone's minds!

Star Trek or Star Wars? Coke or Pepsi? VHS or Betamax?
Trek. Coke. Huh?

What hobbies do you have besides tabletop games?
Swing dancing!

What is something you learned in the last week?
How good I am at Smash Ultimate =)

Favorite type of music? Books? Movies?
Sci-fi.

What was the last book you read?
Non-Obvious 2019

Do you play any musical instruments?
Used to play the piano.

Tell us something about yourself that you think might surprise people.
I left the US over 10 years and have no serious plans to return any time soon.

Tell us about something crazy that you once did.
Hitchhiked all the way across South Korea...?

Biggest accident that turned out awesome?
OKCupid. Met my wife. Maybe not an *accident*, but an unintended consequence.

Who is your idol?
Elon Musk.

What would you do if you had a time machine?
Go back to 1929. Buy up a bunch of stocks =)

Are you an extrovert or introvert?
Extrovert.

If you could be any superhero, which one would you be?
Iron Man.

Have any pets?
No.

When the next asteroid hits Earth, causing the Yellowstone caldera to explode, California to fall into the ocean, the sea levels to rise, and the next ice age to set in, what current games or other pastimes do you think (or hope) will survive into the next era of human civilization? What do you hope is underneath that asteroid to be wiped out of the human consciousness forever?
...huh...? LOL. I just hope we're still able to interact and socialize with each other beyond a survivalist, functional level. Humans need emotional connections with each other, and it's tough enough to do that as the world is today.

Just a Bit More

Mallory Shepherd
Interviewed on: 8/20/2019

This week's interview is with Dallas designer, Mallory Shepherd. Mallory has been a part of the board game industry for a while now, doing project management, marketing, and helping with crowdfunding through her company, Clever Fox Consultants. Recently she's turned to the design side of board games and I'm excited to see what kinds of games she creates! Read on to learn more about Mallory and her projects!

Some Basics
Tell me a bit about yourself.

How long have you been designing tabletop games?
Less than six months.

Why did you start designing tabletop games?
I've been involved in the industry as a playtester and with marketing/project management for several years, and I finally made the jump over into designing. I made the jump because there were games with themes I wanted to play that didn't exist. And I was honestly inspired a lot by Elizabeth Hargrave.

What game or games are you currently working on?
Currently unnamed game involving libraries.

Have you designed any games that have been published?
Not yet, but I've done playtesting and marketing on a lot of published games! Most recently Unmatched and Lanterns Dice.

What is your day job?
I have a consulting company for marketing and project management. Clever Fox Consultants. I help people complete their projects on time and on budget and also do marketing for their products! And manage crowdfunding campaigns/product photography, etc.

Your Gaming Tastes
My readers would like to know more about you as a gamer.

Where do you prefer to play games?
I love all types, but party games and games with mostly luck are my least favorite. I equally love Ameritrash and Euro games.

Who do you normally game with?
I have a game group and then a few friends that we play a lot of two player modes on.

If you were to invite a few friends together for game night tonight, what games would you play?
Whatever one of us just got fulfilled off of Kickstarter. I just got the expansion for Inis so maybe that.

And what snacks would you eat?
I'm lucky, my friend usually makes something in her air fryer or bakes things for us. When I'm hosting we usually have delivery of some kind and chips/some kind of dry snack around the games. And cheese. Always cheese.

Do you like to have music playing while you play games? If so, what kind?
Sometimes we play mood music based on the theme of the game.

What's your favorite FLGS?
Madness Comics and Games

What is your current favorite game? Least favorite that you still enjoy? Worst game you ever played?
Favorite: I'm on a Champions of Midgard kick because I'm excited to get my Kickstarter copy of Reavers. Least: Smash Up. It's on my shelf and I don't want to get rid of it, but it doesn't make it to the table at all anymore. Worst: Do prototypes count? Hmmm a published game I really didn't care for is a Fantastic Beasts Dice game. It's basically co-op Yahtzee and there just wasn't any substance to it.

What is your favorite game mechanic? How about your least favorite?
Favorite: this one is hard. I like a lot of different mechanics. But if I had to pick, I'd say deck building. I really love deck builders and the thrill you get when you can get that perfect turn off. Least: PLAYER ELIMINATION. I hate it and it needs to go.

What's your favorite game that you just can't ever seem to get to the table?
I tend to get a lot of games to the table, but I haven't played Dead of Winter for a long time because it's hard to get people to commit to a game that takes a bit more to teach and play.

What styles of games do you play?
I like to play Board Games, Card Games, Miniatures Games, RPG Games, Video Games

Do you design different styles of games than what you play?
I like to design Board Games, RPG Games

OK, here's a pretty polarizing game. Do you like and play Cards Against Humanity?
No

You as a Designer
OK, now the bit that sets you apart from the typical gamer. Let's find out about you as a game designer.

When you design games, do you come up with a theme first and build the mechanics around that? Or do you come up with mechanics and then add a theme? Or something else?
I'm a theme first person and let the mechanics evolve from there into what feels natural and makes sense for the theme.

Have you ever entered or won a game design competition?
Haven't entered one yet!

Do you have a current favorite game designer or idol?
I'm sure he's a lot of people's but Jamey Stegmaier. He puts a lot of thought into his games and takes risks and I admire him for that.

Where or when or how do you get your inspiration or come up with your best ideas?
From all over. First, I pick themes that I love and am passionate about. You have to be if you are going to be researching things about it. I get a lot of inspiration while I'm doing research on the theme too. A lot of mechanics make sense from learning about the theme. Another place I get inspiration from is playing a lot of games. I mean A LOT of games. Of all different types. And third, I listen. I listen to my game group when we are playing a game and someone says "man I wish I could do this in this game." And I also get a lot of inspiration from playtesting other people's games. You have those "aha!" moments when you see a mechanic and realize if you tweaked it a bit it would work really well in your game.

How do you go about playtesting your games?
I'm part of a design group and we playtest for each other. I also get my friends involved. Then after that I ask my friends to find friends and so on.

Do you like to work alone or as part of a team? Co-designers, artists, etc.?
Both!

What do you feel is your biggest challenge as a game designer?
Killing your baby. I think that's the hardest thing for any designer to do. Apart from that, it's knowing when your game is ready to be pitched or to go on Kickstarter. There is always a "I could make this better" and knowing when to stop can be hard for me.

If you could design a game within any IP, what would it be?
Harry Potter. I'm a giant Potterhead.

What do you wish someone had told you a long time ago about designing games?
Just do it. Just get out there and start making one. There are no bad ideas at the start. I sat on the sidelines for so long testing games and wishing I knew how to make one before I realized they don't have any more idea what they are doing than I do in the beginning. I'd have started designing a long time ago if someone had told me to just start making a notecard prototype with all your weird ideas and it's fine if it's bad. That's where we all start.

What advice would you like to share about designing games?
Pick themes/mechanics you care about and wish existed. You will spend a lot of time with them. It's also better to start making a simple prototype right off the bat than trying to plan it all out on paper first.

Would you like to tell my readers what games you're working on and how far along they are?
Games that are in the early stages of development and beta testing are: Library Game

Are you a member of any Facebook or other design groups? (Game Maker's Lab, Card and Board Game Developers Guild, etc.)
Dallas Design Group

And the oddly personal, but harmless stuff…
OK, enough of the game stuff, let's find out what really makes you tick! These are the questions that I'm sure are on everyone's minds!

Star Trek or Star Wars? Coke or Pepsi? VHS or Betamax?
Star Wars, Dr Pepper, and I had to google what a Betamax was.

What hobbies do you have besides tabletop games?
There are other hobbies? JK, I really enjoy reading and listening to podcasts. And geeking out over fandoms. I also like photography.

What is something you learned in the last week?
I'm teaching myself how to edit video so a lot of video things.

Favorite type of music? Books? Movies?
I don't have a favorite type of music, but I love sci-fi/fantasy/post apocalyptic books and movies.

What was the last book you read?
Tiny But Mighty. It's a book written by a kitten advocate and rescuer. She's really reminded me that even one person doing small things can make a difference.

Do you play any musical instruments?
No, I wish I did but don't have the time to practice.

Tell us something about yourself that you think might surprise people.
I don't like ketchup, mustard, or mayo.

Tell us about something crazy that you once did.
I touched a Monet painting in Paris. The actual painting. Pretty sure you can get arrested for that.

Biggest accident that turned out awesome?
I kind of accidentally adopted my cat. She was just supposed to stay for the weekend and it's been two and a half years now. She's my constant companion and is pretty awesome.

Who is your idol?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She's done so much for equality in the United States and didn't let anything stop her in a time it was unheard of for a woman to be a lawyer.

What would you do if you had a time machine?
I'd treat it more like a time turner and do over certain little mistakes. And maybe go to the future. I'd be tempted to go to the past but be terrified of the butterfly effect. I'd love to solve some historical mysteries though!

Are you an extrovert or introvert?
Ambivert. It's a thing, look it up!

If you could be any superhero, which one would you be?
Captain Marvel. She's strong, has a lot of powers, and can fly through outer space! How cool is that?

Have any pets?
An awesome cat. Her name is Kat.

I'd hope for Star Realms to survive. Imagine an Ice Age people playing a game with spaceships. I'd be okay if Cards Against Humanity was never played again. (Sorry, not sorry.)

If you'd like to send a shout out to anyone, anyone at all, here's your chance (I can't guarantee they'll read this though):
Lindsey Rosenthal, for getting me into the design group I'm part of. They really pushed me to start making my ideas into reality.

Just a Bit More
Thanks for answering all my crazy questions! Is there anything else you'd like to tell my readers?

Be kind to people.

And...

I really like cheese.
