I've been thinking about you all a lot! I'm glad to hear the fires have spared you and that everyone's doing better. I hope they get things figured out for Tyler.
Name me one candidate who agrees with every one of your ideals and I'll vote for him or her happily. I do not support gay marriage, but I will not let it get in the way when it comes to my vote. In my case, Obama and I agree on more points than any other candidate. Not every point, just more than the others. To me, that is a good reason to vote for the man. Should I vote for someone who I mostly disagree with but agree with on homosexuality? I think not.
By the way, my name is Will McCafferty. The opinion in this message is mine and mine alone. I will stand by it no matter who disagrees. It doesn't make me right, just firm in my beliefs and that is good enough for me. At least I have the courage to state my beliefs and take credit for them, rather than hiding behind an anonymous statement. If you so strongly believe in something, state you name and be counted. Don't wimp out and hide.
As far as Gay Marriage is concerned I'm for it. I have a gay brother who has been in a committed relationship longer than My wife and I have been married. They have run a very succesful business together for over 30 years. I damn proud of both of them. I have other gay friends... Yes friends, good ones, the kind that are there when you have to evacuate your home because a California wildfire is bearing down on your home of almost 20 years, and if they wish to have a legal union such as my wife and I have then I'm for it!
On the lighter side... It might give some couples the added experience of having to go through a divorce. I know it was actually good for me in the long run.
Most of the opposition I hear to "gay" marriage is religious based. If a church does not wish to sanction a marriage then they should not. However marriage, in it's legal form, is a civil and not a religious matter. We need to learn to make the distinction.
Somewhere on a document in the National Archives it says something about everyone person in this country having the right to "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Have we forgotten about that.
So hide your identity when you post your nonsense. That's fine with me because I know when the chips are down no one can count on someone who hides who they are to step up and make a difference.
I am Blaine's father and these 5 kids grandfather. Furthermore I'm a Vietnam veteran and almost as proud of that.
Ok Will I wont wimp out, Its me Christy. I have to say I agree with the annonymous guy/gal. I am standing firm on Gods word regardless if it wins me a popularity contest or not. I believe marriage is a sacred union between a man and a wife and I believe life is priceless. I guess when you post your political views on your blog you get all kinds of responses huh? Thats whats so great about our country; we get the chance to voice our opinions and discuss things. Thank you annonymous for standing firm in your walk with the Lord and on things that seem to make us the ones "swimming up stream, against the flow" anymore these days.
Thank you Christy for standing up for what you believe in and having the courage to put your name to it. I am still waiting for Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous to tell me which candidate matches every one of their Christian views. Also, I do believe that we have to vote with the entire country in mind. I'm sad to say that many in this country are not Christians and never will be. Should they lose rights because they stand on the other side of the fence? Yes, I know that we live in a country that was founded by Christians and I believe the founding fathers inteded for us live Godly lives. However, they also fought for religious freedom. I don't think that our struggle to avoid religious percecution was only for Christians. All Americans must be taken into account.
Going back to Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous, I don't see why it is "wise" to hide you name from this forum. Don't you believe putting your name to a statement gives a little more credibility? What could you posible have to lose? I can tell you this; if I were not a Christian, I would be asking why you feel you need to hide your identity when you are simply speaking what you believe to be the truth? Come to think of it, I am a Christian and I have the same question.
Had to jump in here. I have to wonder how anonymous is going to answer God when He asks "why should I let you into heaven?" Based on his/her comments it will be something along these lines, "Because I voted for all the right people." Jesus is the only answer acceptable to God. To question someone's faith based on who they vote for is absurd. Now, I will also say that there is no way that I will ever vote for Barack Obama. However, that fact alone says nothing about my salvation. I trust Jesus for that, not my elected officials.
gotta' jump in here and again say I wont cast my voe to be popular Will. I understand what you are saying that a good part of this world will never know Christ but that is not how I live day in and day out. I live like my life, my families life, and those we impact will possible come to know my Lord. I am sorry that many Americans don't serve God but that is not my problem when it comes to voting. It is to stand on truth or as much of it as we can find. No I will never agree will all of what any politican says or does but I will ALWAYS agree with and try my best to live out Gods word that has been laid right out in front of us. Marriage and abortion is a deal breaker for me. I also agree that the identity of annonymous is beside the point. God knows who they are and really if you think about people do things and say things all the time that are right on and world changine, life altering that never get the credit for it. I would never let politics or different views on life in general (we have lots of unsaved friends and family & those who out right follow other beliefs) come between friends or family but truth be told I am here to serve God and God first regardless of how that affects other people. And cousin Julie that is how God will know me when I stand before him. He will know my mistakes, short comings and who I voted for but he will also see that I will do the right thing even when it is uncomfortable and not popular or welcome by most. That is what is to set you apart.
It seems that so many "christians" feel they need to be the moral compass for others.
I consider myself to be a christian which means I know how to forgive others for things that I would not consider doing myself.
I am not gay but I can accept those that are as also some of God's children. No matter their lifestyle choices. Judging them is God's job, not mine.
I would not want to have a abortion (I'm male and it would be rather difficult) but I don't feel it is my place to judge those who do. That will be taken care of at a later time by someone who will judge us all eventually. I can only control what I do and try to influence my own family. Other than that I would be overstepping my bounds... In MY opinion.
So those of you who feel that you have the need to force your beliefs on others... Please proceed. I have a feeling their may some judgement made on that too... someday.
Now, I will also say that there is no way that I will ever vote for Barack Obama. However, that fact alone says nothing about my salvation. I trust Jesus for that, not my elected officials.
well since it has come to my attention that Blaine will be deleating most of the comments on here I just wanted to say that I dont believe anyone is standing on a soap box or trying to strong arm anyone. I believe that Annonymous #1 & #2 are just stating the facts and the facts are And no disrespect Tim but your life style choices do matter and the bible is VERY clear on that. I am signing out and wont be commenting any longer on the subject since it seems it is no longer being encouraged.

Christy,
Darlin' you better go back and read my posts. My life style was never even mentioned. You're assuming something that you know NOTHING about.
I am a straight, longtime, married man who does not believe in abortion for my family.
I also don't try to force my beliefs or values onto others.
My last post on this subject will be to call for all writers to go to neutral corners. One of the many great things about living in this country is that we are able to have different beliefs and opinions, state them freely, and hear differing opinions without fear of retrobution. I appreciate and respect everyone's opinions even if they differ from my own. I must admit that I still repect those who state who they are more than those keeping their identities private. Don't worry, Anonymous 1 and 2, you can remain closet christians and I will no longer ask you to come out. I will also continue to look into the diffenent candidates and see if anyone is a better fit for me then Obama. Fortunately, we have a Christian President in the White House for now, so we are all safe. Darn it, there I go again with the sarcasm. I really must work on that. I apologize.
What an interesting view of religion. My walk with Christ is just that MY WALK! Often times we focus on others walk, so we do not have to focus on ours. I now understand more why Christians are viewed as judgmental. As for political officials, they all take money from special interest. What we get from one we will get from another. Higher taxes, less job security, and more of the same. Unless and until we as a collective demand better..
All comments are welcome, but if you choose to comment using the "anonymous" button, please be sure to include your name at the end. All TRULY anonymous comments will be deleted. Thanks for your understanding...Blaine (aka 5KidMom)
