My oldest son made a pretty big mistake this past week, and earned himself some yard work time. As he was working on weeding the hill in our backyard, he let out an alarmed cry. It seems he had come upon a snake. My husband just happened to be in the yard at the time, so he hurried over to see what was going on. It turns out, we had a young rattle snake in our midst. That angle you see in the top right of the picture is where the concrete step into our garage meets the stucco on the side of our house. Yikes!! After taking a moment to snap this picture, I am happy, I mean sorry, to say it met its' demise.

Oh, that just gives me the creeps!!
We have baby rattle snakes out and about in our area too. In the last month, one friend had a cat killed by a rattler bite and another friend found one between the screen door and glass door to her porch (and then, that same day, found a scorpian in her living room!).
I'm so glad your son was safe!
(Thank you for the link to the blog of the family in Malawi. Wow!)
Oh my! A little to scary for me.
I can't even imagine living in the land of rattlesnakes and scorions. It's a chilling thought.
Little bit sure is cute with her mopping chores. Time to cut the handle down for her!

Whoa, I'd hate to mess up around your house...yardwork amongst the rattlers...that should teach him a lesson! Just kidding (-:

Wow - talk about punishment! :) I would totally freak out, actually if I just saw a garden snake in my yard I would freak out!

Snakes are one of my worst fears. Phobia would be more like it. I can't believe you were brave enough to come back and take a picture! :)

Wowzers-
That is a bit frightning.
Thanks for taking a picture before it met its demise.
